AI rap trends explained: Hotel Lobby, Bulin 47 and more

Hotel Lobby
The source is a 2022 COLORS performance by Quavo and Takeoff. In September 2026 creators used AI to put other people, characters and animals into it. Quavo reposted the original and called it The Original, and some fans objected to using a late artist's likeness. Sources: Complex, HotNewHipHop, BlackAmericaWeb.
Bulin 47
Bulin 47 is the stage name of Dominican artist Hancel Teodoro Vargas Reynoso. A dembow freestyle he did with Kevin Wai outside a restaurant in Spain went viral; a view count of 50 million appears in one outlet only, so treat it as unconfirmed. Source: Latination.
Why rap fans care about the original
Hip-hop has a long tradition of crediting where something comes from: the DJ who looped the break, the MC who first said the line. The agreed starting point is a 1973 Bronx party by DJ Kool Herc and Cindy Campbell, though many historians say hip-hop had more than one founder. AI videos that credit the original read as respect; ones that hide it read as copying.
AI and hip-hop have a history
Earlier AI projects drew pushback from the community: the virtual rapper FN Meka was dropped by its label in 2022 after criticism, and AI imitations of Drake and The Weeknd in 2023 led artists such as Ice Cube to object. That is the context for our rules on consent and for not using any artist's voice.
